Eta Mu Chapter of Sigma Chi at Eastern Illinois - Chapter Update: Undergrads Carry on Our Tradition of Success

As we start off a new year, we want to celebrate some of the chapter’s achievements this past year, including a great fall recruitment period and the second highest fraternity GPA for the fall semester.

Rush Results
Though our chapter always strives for quality over quantity, the chapter recruited the largest pledge class at EIU. Through various rush events, including a basketball tournament, 19 new members were recruited.

Goals for recruitment in the future include attracting more athletes. They hope to accomplish this by having active members who participate in athletics become more involved in the recruitment process.

Do you have any sons, grandsons, relatives, neighbors, or friends who attend Eastern Illinois and either might benefit from membership in Sigma Chi or whom Sigma Chi might benefit from his participation? As always, the chapter continues to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The 2016 Derby Days brought in over $2,500 to benefit the institute and Greek Life.

They are currently in the process of setting up the second annual Lake Charleston cleanup with the Charleston Police Department.

Academic Performance
Thanks to study hours and putting academic chairs in place, our undergraduates received a 2.86 GPA this fall, which is the second highest fraternity GPA. It also tops the all IFC average (2.79), all men’s average (2.66), and all campus average (2.83).

We look forward to an equally successful spring 2017 semester!
