These Brothers Are Showing Their Loyalty, Keeping Eta Mu Strong

Thanks to the generosity of those who have donated to the 2016-17 Annual Fund, Eta Mu is seeing impressive results. With $3,060 raised by 25 donors so far (as of April 18), we are close to surpassing our giving results from the entirety of last year ($3,805 from 26 donors in 2015-16), with a few months still left to go!

It takes a special kind of Sig to make more than just a symbolic commitment to our brotherhood—to go the extra mile by making a financial commitment, no matter the amount.

Reflections on Eta Mu’s Modest Beginnings and Its Progress

Founding Father Paves the Way

Ron Hagenow ’72 has a distinction that very few Sigs can claim—as a Founding Father of the Sigma Chi chapter at Eastern Illinois. Playing an important role in the history of the school’s Greek Life, Ron came to college wanting to be a Sigma Chi, but knew that there was no chapter when he enrolled in 1968. He, and group of others, sought to change that.

“I actually first joined Lambda Sigma Chi in 1969—I was in their first pledge class and it was formed for the express purpose of becoming a Sigma Chi Chapter,” he explains. “I was then initiated when we got our charter in December of 1971, so I’m a founding father for the chapter."

Core Values, Vision, and Mission

Core Values
Sigma Chi’s core values are Friendship, Justice and Learning. Our vision is to become the preeminent collegiate leadership development organization — aligned, focused and living our core values. Our mission is to develop values-based leaders committed to the betterment of character, campus and community.

The fundamental purpose of the Sigma Chi Fraternity is the cultivation, maintenance and promotion of the core values of Friendship, Justice and Learning.

In the pursuit of these high ideals, the Sigma Chi Fraternity is able to offer tremendous value in augmenting the collegiate experience and supporting the lifelong journey of each of its members. We hope to assist brothers in becoming men of character, caring husbands, compassionate fathers and community leaders.
