Thank you to Dave Canon '90 for participating in this Q&A.

Why did you join Sigma Chi as an undergraduate?
When I first got to Eastern Illinois I joined the Rugby team without any intention of joining a Fraternity. When all the guys on my floor were going to rush I decided to join them for the free food. We rushed Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Pi and Sigma Chi. The Pike and Sig Pi’s rushed me so hard that I was turned off and didn’t proceed. Sigma Chi basically acted like they were going to be fine with or without me. While that intrigued me, I still didn’t end up rushing a house that fall and just kept playing rugby. By the spring I realized that if I wanted to meet the girls then I had to join a house. After seeing the different fraternities around campus and how they conducted themselves, I rushed only the Sig house that spring. To have an organization mean so much in my life, knowing I joined just to meet girls is one of those things I’ll write off as dumb luck.
